Ubuntu blank desktop with Gnome
My Ubuntu Gnome desktop now comes up blank - just started doing it for no particular reason. The mouse works but no clicks or keyboard actions have any effect. I can still remote in using Putty.

Any ideas??

PS - I tried re-installing Gnome desktop (using Putty) - actually uninstalled and then reinstalled. Everything went fine, no errors reported - but same deal.

More - I tried creating a new user. When the machine starts up, I get the login screen all right, but when I login as this new user I get the same thing - featureless grey desktop, mouse pointer, nothing does anything.

Eddy1, thanks for the link. I will look at that when I get a minute. First thing I note in there is using ctrl-alt-del to logout - nothing, including ctrl-alt-del, responds when I am in Gnome. I have to remote in using Putty to kill the login.

Are you using GNOME 3.6, or did you happen to update it to 3.8? I have actually tried about 3 different distros, and would upgrade GNOME 3.6 to 3.8 and reboot. Then the same thing would happen to me.
