Trouble with installing frostwire
I recently attempted to install frostwire on my ubuntu system, and well it seems that ive installed it, but when i go to open it, it doesnt open. Now ive read on some forums that you may need to have Java to run frostwire.
do i have to uninstall it and reinstall Java and or FrostWire? and if so how do i go about doing that? any suggestions? LinuxNoob Grant. |

there is a good tutorial about frostwire here at the forum. sudo apt-get java (i believe that's how i installed it.) |
dpkg-reconf
hi, i believe you got do something like this:
$sudo dpkg-reconfigure java-common or maybe this one: $sudo update-alternatives --config java |
there are some great threads here on java and frostwire both. work on the java first. once you git that done, frostwire should work. and also try:
sudo apt-get java |
the terminal gives me an error when i enter in sudo apt-get java. it says "no such directory" something of that nature.
but i will search for those java forums you guys are talking about. thanks alot! grant. |
i really need to start keeping a journal of what i do and how i do along with links and ect....
wish i could be of more help to you. please keep us updated on how you do. good luck. |
it's apt-get install java, though I think the package is actually named something slightly different than just java. You can do a search by apt-cache search java . It might be easier to use Synaptic at first which is a frontend for apt.
If you haven't already found it a good website is The ubuntu guide |
yeah i have used the ubuntu guide like the bible the past few days while getting used to my ubuntu system, but the commands look right, but i get the error message -
E: Couldn't find package java and when i search for java in the terminal, i get a HUGE List of things that have the word java attached to them. now, i have tried searching for java in synaptic and installed everything that is there when i searched for java. but still no luck! thanks alot for your support guys! but still no luck... any suggestions? |
well since the ubuntuguide says to read the section about java in the instructions for frostwire that may be a good place to start.
I don't use ubuntu anymore, so if that doesn't work I wouldn't know if there's more to it. If it doesn't post any error messages and we can try to help. |
apt-get install sun-java5-jre or check this site: http://wiki.serios.net/wiki/Ubuntu_J...h_java-package
one of these two should help, please read the site first before you try anything though. |
