trouble installing utility make/configure - SOLVED

Hi,

I have a fujistsu siemes amilo 1655g and it has a radio button to turn on and off the wireless.

After alot of researching I found the right prog to activate it but i cant install it.

its called fsaa1655g and is found at, http://www.marvec.org/amilo/

When i try to make it i get this error.

linux-hw5y:~/fsaa1655g # make
make -C /lib/modules/2.6.18.2-34-default/build SUBDIRS=/root/fsaa1655g modules
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.18.2-34-obj/x86_64/default'
make[1]: *** No rule to make target `modules'. Stop.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.18.2-34-obj/x86_64/default'
make: *** [default] Error 2

im on suse 10.2, its a brand new install.

Any help will be greatly apreciated this is the only missing feature to my install.

To do with this, I read in many places to use ./configure to remake the makefile but it doesnt work on suse, any reason? i tried to man it but it doesnt seem to exist either

max

I downloaded the package, exploded it, and did a make.

It looks as though it's expecting something in your /usr/src/linux-2.6.18.2-34-obj directory that isn't there.

I'm thinking that the author of the package doesn't have a clear idea of how the make and installation jobs should be performed on a "clean" system (one on which they haven't been performed before). My reasoning is this: If you have separate commands for "make" and "make install", then all the stuff that permanently affects your system should be placed in the "make install" part, and you ought to be able to run the "make" part without being root. When I did the "make" without being root, it blew up because it didn't have write permissions for a directory which is owned by root.

So the make/make install may be a little broken.

For help, I see two alternatives.

The first is to go to the bottom of

http://www.marvec.org/amilo/

and take a look at the e-mail address there. Tell that guy about your problem.

The second is to go to the sourceforge page mentioned on

http://www.marvec.org/amilo/

and go to the "Public Areas" part of that page. Click on the "Public Forums" page. Root around, and you'll eventually find two real messages: One from a guy whose question never gets answered, and another from a guy who basically says, "Yay! It works." E-mail him.

Hope this helps.

thx

I wrote to the guy already, hopefully he will get back to me some day, but what i tried in the meantime is to install the prog which this one was based on, called fsam14... and i got the same error so it seems they build off something maybe a utility or something ill be looking in that direction.

Thx anyway

Try fixing it yourself. I know that's unreasonable, but it might be your only option, and it could be fun.

kernel

seemingly form what i have grasped from other module errors this could be to do with the new kernel shipped with 10.2.

Seems like the new kernel changes a certain tree struct, im downloading 10.1 open suse to try, anyone could confirm that this is a possibility??

Thanks

solved

After talking to the creators of the fsam7440 script i found out that their scripts requires the kernel sources and the kernel modules to be installed as well as the compiler for c.
With the sources installed in suse 10.1 it worked so im now installing 10.2 and it all seems like its gonna work nicely.

Thank you all for the help
