Time Zone Correction

Hi All
New to this forum so hope i am in the correct area.
I run Linux Wheezy latest version, my computer died so built another one .
problem : i need to adjust the time zone, I seem to be stuck in UTC, where I need to be in Sydney Australia, I cant find an area to access this or does it have to be done thru a terminal window, if so, what is the syntax to correct this???
Thanks
Doug

Welcome to LinuxQuestions.

Depends on what desktop you are running but have you tried right clicking on the date/time? That typically pops up a menu with an item to adjust date/time. From there you can select the time zone.

Linux machines are generally set to UTC, then use the timezone adjustment to display local time. Time and timezone settings are most efficiently manipulated from the command line.

This article on setting and adjust time and timezones in Debian should help: https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/s...dmin-time.html

The command, run as root in a terminal,

Code:
tzselect
can be used to select/change the time zone. The first time I used it, I was surprised how how straightforward it is.

These articles should tell you more:
