Thunderbird quits when sending new message
 

sending a new message with Thunderbird 3.0.6. in Opensuse 11.2 causes the program to quit.
There are no error messages & this is a recent problem after Opensuse online update.
I installed Opera which works OK except I cannot import anything from Thunderbird.
Any help to repair Thunderbird and/or importing mail & settings into Opera will be appreciated.

You could try starting Thunderbird via a terminal. It might give you an error message in the terminal when it quits.

I tried opening thunderbird in a terminal & it opened as per normal.
every thing that I tried in thunderbird worked except send new message, then the program quit with no error message.
Tried a second time and noticed the following below my last attempt:
*** nss-shared-helper: Shared database disabled (set NSS_USE_SHARED_DB to enable).

Here's something you could try: Starting Thunderbird in Safe Mode.

I don't know what you mean by 'import settings' but you can certainly import your mail from Thunderbird to Opera. See here: Import your messages.

I tried thunderbird in safe mode, It launched as normal but still shuts down when attempting to send new emails.
on looking at konsole after tbird shutdown the following message was shown:
thunderbird -safe-mode
*** nss-shared-helper: Shared database disabled (set NSS_USE_SHARED_DB to enable).
/usr/lib64/thunderbird/thunderbird-bin: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib64/gio/modules/libgiolibproxy.so: undefined symbol: g_proxy_resolver_get_type

Since discovered that Gpodder & Gimp will not fully start up & they also give similar "NSS_USE_SHARED_DB type" messages.

I will try to learn about debugging in the near future, any help till then is greatly appreciated.
