Switching Desktops


My friend is running Mint 18.1-Cinnamon Desktop. He has also d/l MATE Desktop and now wants to know how he can switch back and forth between the two. Please advise. Thank you.

yes, log out, and at login choose the other desktop session.

For switching between multiple desktops, you are required to logout and select the desired desktop while re-login.

We have tried logging out, rebooting, etc. several times and the screen only shows Linux mint 18.1 Cinnamon, Mem Test1, Mem Test2, Windows10 Loader. We are now stymied!

that's the boot menu you are describing.
no, just log out - do NOT reboot - it should bring you to the display/login manager window. something like this.
