Maybe, if we knew what "the cube" was...what are you talking about, in what context???

Could this be some sort of compiz 3D thingy?
@OP Does your video card support 3D acceleration? Do you have the correct driver installed?

Right click on the titlebar of any window and select "Configure Window Behavior" from the context menu.
Select the "Enable desktop effects" button. It's on the first General tab.
Below is a drop down selector "Effect for desktop switching". Select "Desktop Cube".

I have these compiz packages installed:
jschiwal@qosmio:~> zypper se compiz | grep '^i'
i | Compiz-Manager | Installs Compiz-Manager | pattern
i | compiz | OpenGL window and compositing manager. | package
i | compiz | compiz: Collective fixes for compiz | patch
i | compiz-branding-openSUSE | OpenGL window and compositing manager. | package
i | compiz-kde4 | OpenGL window and compositing managerdecorator for kde4 | package
i | compiz-manager | A wrapper script to launch Compiz with proper options | package
i | compiz-plugins-main | Compiz-Fusion community main plugins | package
i | libcompizconfig | CompizConfig plugin(ccp) required for compizconfig-settings-manager(ccsm) | package

I also have the composite option in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "on"
EndSection

Check if you have the compiz-kde4 installed. If you install it, it may install some of the others you need as dependencies. I have kde4.1.3 installed however.

Thanks for your reply jschiwal;
I have checked my software manager and Compiz-Manager is installed on the system. However i am using KDE 4.3 with Qt 4.5 if this is of any help.

How do i check for the other packages on my system ? is this correct?

~>ypper se compiz | grep '^i'
i | compiz | OpenGL window and compositing-> | package
i | compiz | compiz: Collective fixes for -> | patch
i | compiz-branding-openSUSE | OpenGL window and compositing-> | package
i | compiz-fusion-plugins-main | Compiz-Fusion community main -> | package
i | compiz-kde4 | OpenGL window and compositing-> | package
i | compiz-manager | A wrapper script to launch Co-> | package
i | libcompizconfig | CompizConfig plugin(ccp) requ-> | package
~>

Not sure what this refers to below:-
I also have the composite option in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "on"
EndSection

Thanks
