SUSE 10.1-strange post-install behavior-HP 4150 laptop

I did a SUSE 10.1 install on my HP Omnibook 4150 laptop from CDs. I think it really installed OK, but here's what I'm experiencing: 1) sometimes it'll go through a boot-up and end up at a gray, "pixely" screen. If I tap the laptop's on/off button once, I'll see the regular SUSE 10.1 desktop (blue background, My Computer and other icons) and then the computer will shut down; or 2), the boot-up process will get me to the black DOS-like screen, and finally land me at a prompt for login and password; but even though Ill enter all the correct info (the info I set up for this during installation), the system always returns the message that I've entered the wrong info. Any tips or ideas?

I don't think your computer meets the minimum requirements for Suse 10.1.

I am suprised that you got the GUI to run. Suse 10.1 likes to have at least 512 meg of ram for the graphical install. It tells you on startup that 128 meg of ram is a bad idea and will not run properly. I could not get gml to run with 128 meg of video ram.

I tried to install 10.1 on an old Dell pentium 3 750mhz and had the same problem. 10.1 really works well when you give it good hardware. I did get an older version of Ubuntu to run on the old laptop complete with internet updates.

Good luck
