Startup scripts/programs for X with gdm
Does anyone know of a place I can read about the exact sequence of scripts and programs that are invoked/executed when my system (Debian Sarge, running Gnome) starts up using gdm?
The reason for asking is that I wish to modify my setup so that I can choose between different XF86Config-4 files at startup. I would appreciate any suggestions! Thank you! |
Try taking a read at http://wiki.debianhelp.org/pmwiki.ph...ianInitScripts for info about the workings of Debian's Init.
I really don't know how XFree86 works at all, but from a quick look at my Xorg and startx man pages I think you may be able to log in to text mode then log in and use different `startx -- -config /path/to/config` (or aliases for each preference).... that could be then used in a script that, rather than boot to GUI login, automatically runs the appropriate startx line after a CLI login. |
Thanks for your suggestions! I ran into some other trouble, and it looks as though a dist-upgrade may be necessary before I look into this. Just have to summon a bit of courage first!
