Question sound gnome gentoo

Hi all!

I have some problems with sound ..

When playing music in different players, everything is fine.
When testing the sound on the menu: System-> Options-> Sound, too, everything works fine.

But when playing sounds in the "Sounds" nothing happens... And GNOME never produces any sounds. Pidgin is also silent...

Help me please

I just noticed that for me it does not work too - I never wanted these as I find them annoying.
But the sound files are installed and the checkbox in the Audio Settings (to enable them) is checked.
I also can play the sounds with any media player.
The ebuild to install is: gnome-extra/gnome-audio - and the files are in /usr/share/sounds and its subdirectories.

But I don't hear them despite I should (and I only noticed now - had it worked I'd have turned them off).

So: I'm interested in the answer too.

Pidgin however is _not_ silent for me...I don't use it much and always I'm surprised to suddenly hear some sound for some event there...

The original post is half a year old
- and everything is working flawlessly now.

Unfortunately do not know how exactly it was resolved.

As I tried to say: I noticed that the system-sounds did not play (back then) when I tried, but I did not bother because I did not want to hear them anyway.

Since then I got rid of esd and use pulseaudio instead.
No special config IIRC.

I run unstable:
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86"
and have these (maybe relevant for this issue) USE-FLAGS:
pulseaudio
-esd
in my /etc/make.conf

the line
Code:
load-module module-gconf
is in system.pa and default.pa

...don't remember if it was me who wrote it there or if it is that way by default
