Some Menu Icons don't appear in GNOME if I don't install KDE

Hi.
Some programs I've installed, they don't appear in my GNOME menu, then I have to create a custom icon to them or run it all the time from the console. But, I've noticed that If I install KDE (I don't need to use KDE), then log in in my GNOME, then install these programs again, this time they will appear in my menu.

Maybe there is something else about all of this that I don't understand.

So, my question is: How can I make sure that menu icons will be created if the program has this feature in it's installation? Do I need some special package that I don't have now? Or maybe some programs just create menu icons to KDE and then there is nothing I can do about it, to have them in my GNOME???

Can you give some examples of these programs. It could be that the packages don't follow the freedesktop standards and install their menu files in non standard directories which GNOME is not reading.

One exemple is Apollon file sharing. It was supposed to be in the internet menu, but it wasn't. Then I installed KDE, and then Apollon appeared there in the internet menu of KDE. And not just that, some other programs (that doesn't come with KDE and were lost) appeared in the menu too, not just of KDE but in the menu of GNOME too.

Well, in that example, I believe the app needs various KDE tidbits. From the Appolon website:

GNOME-user probably want to install the kdetrayproxy in order to get the systemtray-icon working.
You can get the source of the module here: http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=10660.
After you unpacked the source you may have to create the configure first:

make -f Makefile.cvs
./configure

Then just install it. The next time you start Apollon, it will use this proxy.

I was expecting it to be in my Synaptic. Anyway, in the link you have posted the source can't be downloaded. You click on DOWNLOAD -> Then you are sent to another webpage. You click on SOURCE to download the source and I'm getting the following error:

The requested URL /~seli/kdewm/kdetrayproxy-0.2.tar.bz2 was not found on this serve

I'm also not sure if this would solve my problems. I think it will solve at most apollon problems. You may ask why?? Simple. Everything seems to work when I install KDE, and this kdetrayproxy was not installed (it's not in my synaptic list) at least explicitly.
