SLED 10 - retaining old settings?

I just installed SLED 10 (suse Linux enterprise desktop) - I was previously running Suse 10 desktop. (I just installed over top) - but did NOT choose upgrade, just a new installation.

I've noticed that a lot of the old settings are retained - such as firefox favourites. And there's some flaky beahvior with the windows - like there is no X in square in the top right of windows to resize/maximize windows.

How do I tell my new install not to hold onto any of the old settings?
