I have a zip file on my desktop called bugzilla-3.2.3.tar.gz
It is already on my desktop and I want to install it from there....
I understand that in Red Hat Linux. To install an application (I use yum), I have to create a directory
#mkdir
Then give path, then finally direct it to the website where it can go download the application which gets saved in a zip folder. Then you unzip, and then install.
But what if I already have the zip file on my desktop and want to install from the desktop
In principle, you can install from any directory...
In this case, the first thing you have to do is extract the archive: "tar -xzvf bugzilla*"
This will create a new directory named bugzilla--something. What you do next depends on what's there. Usually, there is a README file with further instructions.
OK--so what is in the folder after extracting? e.g. is there one ore more files ending in ".rpm"? Is there a file named "Makefile"? Is there anything that looks like it is an installation script.
Are there any instructions where you got the initial archive (tar.gz) file?
