May I ask what is your desktop environment and window manager? Maybe there is a problem in there. What do you see when you do :
Code:
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep -i "(ee)"
cat /var/log/Xorg.1.log | grep -i "(ee)"
? Do you see any error or high CPU usage in Xorg in top/htop etc. task management programs?

Code:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda2 182G 161G 12G 94% /
/home/glibguide/.Private 182G 161G 12G 94% /home/glibguide
I assume you are bind mounting /home/glibguide/.Private to /home/glibguide? If you do not mind explaining the reasoning that might help.

That could be why used space is being reported as 321.29 GiB. Its possible this is the reason the file browser is slow as well as some applications. I am not sure about the other symptoms.

I'm actually not sure what that is. If this is the case, I didn't do it or change anything as far as i know. And because this issue can of a sudden, and if that's the reason behind the slow down, it must have changed on it own?

Can you post your /etc/fstab file?
Is it encrypted?
Have you checked the drives SMART status?
Have you looked at the output of dmesg for errors?
