Right-Click on desktop
Hi
I'd like to be able to right-click on my desktop and get a menu to 'create new' file and maybe have clipboard features. I have this in my ubuntu command line install with LXDE Enviroment, But I cant work out what is giving me this functionality. I'm looking to add this to the desktop enviroments I'm playing around with on arch installs with bare WM's (openbox, Fluxbox, etc). I have tried installing LXDE Desktop enviroment on Arch install but i don't get this functionality. So My question is what is giving me this functionality on the ubuntu box? or how do i add this functionality to my Arch box's. Thanks in advance for your time |
Have you tried something like this?
http://www.upubuntu.com/2011/06/add-...ght-click.html This shows how to add different functions to the right-click in nautilus |
In Ubuntu with GNOME, the desktop right-click (context) menu is provided by Nautilus (the file manager).
I'm pretty sure in pure LXDE the context menu is provided by its own file manager, PCManFM. You must have that installed ... might be worth checking the PCManFM preferences. |
Yes i figured it was nautilus in ubuntu.
So Im looking into getting what I want with pcmanfm Im a bit confused about all the different versions though and which one has context..... pcmanfm .....pcmanfm-git.. pcmanfm-mod ....pcmanfm-mod-prov. So far I've installed pcmanfm (which is actually pcmanfm2) and looked in the preferences but I can't find anything about context. Maybe I should try some other way. humm.. |
In PCManFM Edit > Preferences, do you have a Desktop tab?
What happens if you run Code:
pcmanfm –desktop-pref |
Well Sir
No desktop tab...:( and when I run the code I get Code:
** (pcmanfm:925): DEBUG: FmJob error: No such file or directory |
Let me rephrase that ...
Code:
pcmanfm --desktop-pref |
Aha!!!!
Yes this brings up a desktop preference window and when I click on the advanced there is the "show menus provided by windows manager when desktop is clicked" option. However with this selected or unselected nothing changes. I guess I need to deactivate the option for fluxbox that makes a menu appear on right click....? (not sure how to do that but i'll start looking into it) does that sound like a plan? Or am I overlookng some other thing not instaled like lxmenu or something ???:) Thanks again |
Sorry - this has reached the limit of my understanding now!
|
Me too...:)
Thanks though you helped a lot just showing me how to get that preference menu up. I'll let you know how I get on.. Might try the arch forum. |
