Removed x11 common files
Hi everyone,
This is my first post and I hope I am sending it to the right forum. I ran this command aptitude purge x11-common and almost all the tools I use on desktop are gone. How can I reinstall them? Thanks maya-- |
Have you tried aptitude install x11-common?.
It would help if you posted which version of Linux you are using,as you mention aptitude I'd guess at Debian or one of the *buntus?. Just out of interest, why did you remove this package? |
Why did you delete it?

Well, thanks guys for quick responses.
As trooper puts it well, it's a debian derivative for using apt packaging. install x11-common was one of the first things I tried with no success; but aptitude install ubuntu-desktop worked like a charm. However, it brings the desktop to its initial state, meaning all other tools I had installed were gone and I had to re-install them separately, which took about 15 minutes of intense package downloading. The funny thing is that no purge will remove the system files from home directory so even if say thunderbird is gone your entire settings and everything else stays there. And once you re-install you can still reach your previous configuration of all. Cool, huh? Why? I often ask that question to myself, only after I crash a system or a server though. Lets say I like omlet but lack the sympathy for chicken or eggs. Cheers, maya-- |
