reinstalling SUSE 10.1

okay, i want to reinstall SUSE 10.1 (Opensuse) and i want to keep windows on there (i know im weird)and when i put the disk back in, it said it was deleting the windows partitions, and that they would be reformatted. does this remove windows?how do i reinstall SUSE without deleting windows?

Yes, deleting the windows partition and reformatting the disk will remove windows. You will need to change SuSE's default partitioning scheme. You should be able to resize your Windows partition to allow enough space to install SuSE.

One option is to use a separate hard disk for Linux:

Or alternatively run an openSuSE virtual machine under Windows using VMWares free player.

You said "reinstalling suse". This is just a shot in the dark, but if you reformatted your reiserfs suse partition as a dos partition, maybe the gui is just telling you it's going to delete windows (the empty dos partition) from that partition where you want to install suse. I know the suse installation disc will recognise an empty dos partition as windows 'cause i done that before. If that's the case, check your partition settings closely. By default, SuSe should detect windows and ask for confirmation of a dual-boot install.
