Reduce Gnome 3 Logging

Hi. I'm running Debian Jessie. I switched over to Gnome 3 from Mate a little while ago. (Please, no flame wars.) I like the Gnome 3 interface for the most part. But one problem I have run into is recently my messages file in /var/log had blown up to 8GB, which filled up the rest of the small partition I was using for system. When I inspected it, it looked like 95% of it was stupid Gnome 3 debug messages. Does anybody know how to turn down Gnome 3 logging, or easily filter those out? I suppose alternatively I could figure out how to reduce the number of lines saved in the log, but I should think that would also reduce the number of important system messages in there.

While it is not solution for your problem, you can limit log with logrotate to certain size. Unfortunately, it will limit useful log messages too, not just gnome ones. Solution would be to see why is gnome spamming you with those messages and to solve that. Alternative temporary solution would be to make symlink for those messages somewhere where you have more space ( like in home ) and where it will not lock your system.
