Ha! Not easy, but I finally got it! The command should be

Quote:
chown username.groupname -R /home/username
I used USERS for groupname, and it worked. Hopefully that's the right group. I guess what I learned here is to keep all important data on separate, os-independent partitions, since deleting/creating a new user will erase it. Luckily I did that.

In any case, thanks for pointing me in the right direction

Just to be sure,
1) does the directory /home/username exist before running the command

2) are you typing the username exactly how it is (case sensitive), e.g.

For username blaH:

chown blaH:blaH -R /home/blaH

(I've seen this command 2 ways, username.username and username:username
I don't know if one is a syntax error or if they both work, but I know for sure the second way is good because I used it recently.)

Yeah manlydan, printers can really suck! I find that out too often. It's not so bad when the computer lab owns it, but when it's your own it actually costs money fix....or even worse: replace.

I used USERS as the groupname for

Code:
chown username.groupname -R /home/username
It didn't work with the period, but I didn't try it with a colon. Don't know if that would have made a difference. In YaST, it shows that it's assigned to the USERS group. Hope that's ok.

Thanks again!
