Raspberry PI / Kodi how do you get to a terminal?

I want to enable SSH access on my Raspberry Pi, but I can't figure out how to get a terminal. I can't recall what distro it is but it's one that's preloaded with Kodi so it boots straight into it. I cannot figure out how to get to a Linux terminal so I can edit the config file. ctrl+alt + F keys does not do anything.

Edit: This is weird, I realized I could just put the memory card in a card reader and edit the file from another system. But this is unlike any Linux system I've ever seen. There's no /etc or any other folder that I recognize. There's a .ssh folder but I get permission denied when I try to access it. Any other folders don't seem to have anything that appears I could edit to get ssh.

Does not show up I read that too but something about it but also something about it not being supported anymore. I managed to figure it out though, I had to add "ssh" at the end of a the line in the file cmdline.txt. (by putting the SSD card in a card reader on another computer)

Also turns out you can add NFS shares right from the GUI so ended up doing that and did not need SSH in first place. So all good now. Just need to set static IP and stuff and I'll be all set and can retire my old XBMC one.
