I researched, and found that Fedora-17 uses "mutter" window manager, with "gnome-shell" running as a plugin.
Also, I read that replacing "mutter" by "metacity" will in general cause system-crashes and unstability (confirmed on my system).
One thing, as per
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compari...indow_managers, it seems that "metacity" may be used in both the "COMPOSTING" mode, as well as "STACKING" mode. So, is there a way to run "metacity" in "COMPOSTING" mode (which might then just make it possible to replace "mutter" with "metacity")?
