Hello,

I have been scratching my head for hours, and I have searched all over the web a solution to following problem.

I have a clean install of debian testing with KDE. I have a 5.1 integrated sound card on my ASUS motherboard. When I run

speaker-test -c6 -t wav -Dsurround51

Only front left and front right emit a sound. The other speakers are not working.

You can find the alsamixer window as attachment. Any help would be greatly appreciated ! Thanks !
Gilles

Make absolutely sure you are playing a 5.1 surround audio track. I have bashed my head against walls trying to get movies I've downloaded, or TV shows to play on all speakers; but, they just kept coming out of the front two.. once I downloaded a movie that actually had 5.1 surround soundtrack, I didn't have to change any settings, it just worked, and I could hear sound from all speakers..

Hello,

Is it better if you unmute S/PDIF ?

It is better to unmute, just in case you later decide to use your digital port to plug something in, and don't know why it's not playing anything; but, it shouldn't directly affect any of your speakers, unless you are plugged into that port right now.. I know soundbars provide digital access through the s/pdif port as a common feature..
