Problem with Gnome Shutdown and Logout

Hi,

I am running Arch Linux 2007.08 (Don't Panic) running Gnome. I have a problem with its shutdown and logout. The popup comes up and asks me if I want to restart, shutdown or cancel, but if I choose anything other than cancel, it freezes (same thing for logout options).

I followed some forums and tried setting permission of /sbin/halt and /sbin/reboot to users but still the same thing. I tried doing the same thing as root, and it still freezes.

I'm not sure if this is a GDM problem because I tried re-installing GDM and nothing changed.

If you have any suggestions, please reply, and if you had the same problem as me, how did you solve it?

Thanks!

I should add this:

I can force quit. The message I will get is:

"" is not responding.

You may choose to wait a short while for it to continue or force the application to quit entirely.

The choices are Wait and Force Quit. If I say Wait, I get nothing, just the forzen dialog. If I say Quit, the entire desktop refreshes, but I'm still not logged out or shut down.

On top of that, if I don't answer, and press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, the shutdown process proceeds, and the computer shuts down.

So maybe its the problem with X server? I dont know
