problem playing wmv files with mplayer

Hello all,

In order to play .wmv files in mplayer, I need to download and make available w32 codecs. I'm having trouble trying to get these codecs. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks!

http://www4.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/rel...061022.tar.bz2

Else specific codecs can be downloaded from Codecs

sn68,

I downloaded and untarred that tar ball. Copied the files to the directory indicated, but I still can't open those damned .wmv files...

Thanks, though!

this may seem like an odd question, what distro are you using?

Open a terminal and su to root, assuming that the all-20061022.tar.bz2 is in the current directory;

Code:
tar xvjf all-20061022.tar.bz2
cd all-20061022/
cp ./* /usr/lib/codecs
exit
Then retry mplayer, preferably in the terminal [ie mplayer /path/to/video/file.wmv] so you can see any error messages.
