Problem in Display Resolution in ubuntu 11.10

I have a problem in screen resolution in Ubuntu 11.10.
I am using 11.10 and my monitor is Samsung.

When I open my display settings, it shows only two options in resolution drop down.
I want to set my screen resolution on 1440 x 900 (16:10). This option is not in drop down.
When I change my Samsung monitor to another one (that is also Samsung), it shows all options in resolution drop down including 1440 x 900.
But I can't use that monitor, it is not mine.
Please solve my problem.
Tell me if you want to know anything else.
Please reply.

Here is an article from the Ubuntu Wiki which details how to discover the full range of resolutions supported by your system, and how to add them to your .xprofile or xorg.conf.
