printer page layout from Evolution

Can someone help me sort out printing email from within Evolution email?
I'm running v2.26.1 on Ubuntu Jaunty (v9.04) or newer.
My printer is an HP 8500, network connected with HPLIPS and CUPS.

No matter how I do my page setup options, the messages print
  • too high on the page so the first line gets chopped off
  • too far to the left so the first column get chopped off
I've even set A4 pages with US Letter paper and it is still crammed
up and left too far.

Printing from Firefox has different troubles but then printing web pages has always been a challenge.

Q1:Do I need to make settings in CUPS or HPLIPS or both to sort this out before I make settings in
Evolution or other applications?

Help, please,
~~~ 0;-Dan
