OpenOffice help , read csv-like text format

I usually use Excel to open a text file with csv format where each information is separated by comman (or other delimitor). When I open the file with Excel, i will be asked what kind of delimitor i would like to apply, then Excel will display the content correctly.

However, it does not work the same for OpenOffice. It just open the file with Word prcessor (Write). Is there a way I can force OppenOffice to do the same as that of Excel.

Example of my file

Code:

Name  |  Phone  |  Zip
John  |  323-4345 |  35445
Tim  |  234-2342 | 23434

Are you actually specifying the OO Spreadsheet prog when you do that? Otherwise, I think OO defaults to Writer, because that's the most common option.

As far as I'm concerned this is the most annoying issue in OpenOffice....

Anyway, to open a csv file, you need to start Calc, then File->Open and in the File Type drop-down you need to select "Text-CSV" (it's about half-way through the list). It will handle other delimiters as well with the same file type.
