Openbox randomly changes Desktop

Openbox randomly changes Desktop to desktop 2, in ObConf, number of desktops is set to 1.
I am running a background script that is pretty messy and uses wmctrl but I don't believe there is a command active to change desktop and in Gnome it won't change desktop at random times.

How can I fix this?

System is linux mint (upgraded to latest version)

Two thoughts for identifying the culprit come to mind:

If you can, stop running the script for a reasonable period of time. If then problem goes away, the returns when you restart the script, it's definitely the script.

Alternatively, instead of running the script in the background, run it in the foreground and see if you can learn something from the output as it runs.

Does the script log its behavior? Maybe a log would tell you something.
