nvidia 6150 driver loads sometimes on restart sometimes it does not.

I have a Compaq 6205NR notebook (2 of them actually). Both have the same problem. When I boot up (dual booot system) about half the time the nvidia driver loads at boot up and again when X starts. Everything works fine. The other half of the time the screen get grainy during the boot and it freezes when it starts X.

Here is the info

[root@breit101 ~]# modprobe -l | grep nvidia
/lib/modules/2.6.20-1.2933.fc6/extra/nvidia/nvidia.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.20-1.2933.fc6/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia/nvidiafb.ko

[root@breit101 ~]# uname -a
Linux breit101 2.6.20-1.2933.fc6 #1 SMP Mon Mar 19 11:00:19 EDT 2007 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

[root@breit101 ~]# rpm -qa | grep nvidia
kmod-nvidia-1.0.9755-2.2.6.20_1.2933.fc6
xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-1.0.9755-3.lvn6
[root@breit101 ~]#

[root@breit101 ~]# rpm -qa | grep grub
grub-0.97-13
[root@breit101 ~]#

Is there anything I can do to get the nvidia driver to load each time?

Have you tried turning off the bootsplash display?

How do you turn off bootspash display

How do you turn it off ?

"How do you turn it off ?"

I have to admit that I do not know and that this was just a guess. I figured that there might be some problem with the video hardware sometimes losing a race during boot and not being able to go into graphic mode in time. I see something similar when gdm starts on my desktop - I don't always see the nvidia splash. It doesn't seem to cause me any errors, though. Unfortunately, I don't use bootsplash, so I can't help.
