Notifications in GNOME persist between sessions. How to make them not do that?

If I log in (with GNOME) and look at the list of notifications, there's notifications there from last time I was logged in. Sometimes this results in notifications from previous sessions appearing on the lock screen. Overall I find the persistent of notifications between sessions irritating and unhelpful.

Does anyone know how to make it so that notifications do not persist between sessions?

I get this behaviour on openSUSE Leap 41.1 (GNOME 3.16) and Fedora 23 (GNOME 3.18).

This might help: https://help.gnome.org/users/gnome-h...ations.html.en

A quick reading indicates that you may not find the setting you are looking for--to dismiss notifications at log out--but the article does offer some methods for controlling notifications.
