nomachine (freenx) keeps disconnecting

Hi all,

not quite sure where to start so lets start with the OS

Kubuntu hardy heron (8.04 iirc)

running kde (no surprise) but i did try to install kde4 and Gnome using adept package manager.

after said installs i have not been able to connect from my windows XP machine, it opens as usual showing the NX logo, connects to the KDE suddenly shows the KDE loading icon next to the mouse, then the message i get form the NX client is that "the connection was shut down, please check the state of your connection" I know the connection is still up and im still able to use the internet/network.

This is all logging in with my user (mgilbert) if i log in with my partners user (robpw2) it works fine... if not a bit dodgy due to an incorrectly setup user.

i have removed all traces (as far as i know at least) of KDE4 and Gnome and removed and re-installed/configured the nomachine software, yet the problem still remains. I thought it may be a profile issue with my account so i went into my home folder and remove the .nx dir, hasnt helped.

I have searched for this problem but not found anything.

thanks in advance.

Matty Gilbert

PS - this is the log i get from the NX session administrator tool on my linux box

Sounds like a strange problem there .

Have you tried connecting without the additional options such as printing and redirected sound?

Also is there any difference between the Client configuration under the robpw2 login you can get it to work from and the one the connection does not work from?

Do you have any firewalls running on the XP Machine that might have different exceptions set between the two user accounts?

Thanks

unfortunately i couldnt hang about and i wiped and reinstalled, sorry should have said, but it was logging on the windows machine with my user (mgilbert) both times, so no issues with firewall which is always off, the settings from the nx client are everything off, pretty much optomized for speed with most options set to default.

tbh ive just learnt to not try to install any other display manager when using FreeNX.

im happy with it anyway now.

sorry it took so long.
