no volume control on XFCE4!!

i'm running Ubuntu Edgy, and i decided that I wanted to remove Gnome, and replace it with xfce. I decided to manually install all the files myself, instead of downloading Xubuntu [which uses xfce4 as it's default]. I didn't want to install Xubuntu because i really don't like Feistey Fawn, and there are other reasons as well.

Anyways, everything went really well except for the fact that I have no volume control. there are two packages called xfce4-mixer and xfce4-mixer-alsa. These are the packages required for volume control. When i try to install either one, it says there are missing depencies, and the missing dependencies for both are the same, and they are 'xfce4-mixer and xfce4-mixer-alsa'.
Which doesn't make sense, bc clearly the files are missing bc i'm trying to install them. I tried looking through the packages for xfce to see if iwas missing any packages, and it looks like i have all of them. I originally got the packages from the Debian website, then i got them off the Ubuntu website, and then i figured i would try older versions of the packages, so i tried that. Still nothing.
The only way i can control volume is using the volume bar on the XFMedia player! lol
anyone know what's going on?? I actually have this happen to me from time to time with other packages.
thanks

Instead of trying to download all of them separately (I am fairly sure this will help your problem), type

sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop

in a terminal. That will install xfce and all of the applications that it uses on your computer. I hope this helps
