No sound in Arch for some games and apps (permisson problem)

Hi

I am running Arch with a custom Kernel 3.0, and even if the sound works fine for listening music, watching videos, etc, some games just started to play muted (one morning they worked fine, and witout reboot, they didn't have sound in the evening). Executing them as root "solve" the problem, but isn't
ideal, and that make me unable to execute them from menus.

There is no error log in console. They just drop the standard init messages, and from there seem to initialize correctly the sound

I am on the sound group, and i don't have any problem with some games, or apps. I think it can be a sdl problem, but i am not very sure.

What can i do next? if there is no error messages, i don't know where to start
TIA

I never heard of a "sound" group. How about "audio"?

Well, i am done, i don't had any problem fixing arch, but all the lastes problems where stuff stop working witout any prompt or error message. I am just tired, and will look for another distro. I love the Arch community and philosophy, but i just can't do anymore with packages that just stop working, and waiting months for answers, or a magilcal update that fixes the problems

sudo chown -R yourusername /path/to/sound/files

Maybe?

It might help if you provided more information like are you using alsa or pulse?

Niet

All permissons are correct, as correspond with the sound group. And changing the ownership doesn't change anything. Anyways, thanks for the answer

Sorry, forgot to comment. I am using alsa

Well, I'm not too sure what's wrong. I use pulseaudio on my desktop with gnome and openbox with alsa on my laptop. alsa works fine for me after the kernel upgrade, but this thread might be of use to you: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=116789
