name only on panels?

Hi folks, is it possible to have your panels (or any one panel) list just the names of the launchers instead of showing the icons? The reason i ask is that I have a vertical panel which has all my launchers for ssh'ing or rdesktoping into various servers but I would rather just see their names. As it currently stands, I have to hover over the icons to see the names. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

z.

Even better, does anyone know of any packages that provide more feature rich panels?

The crude way to do this would be to just make your own icons in GIMP or such.

I've never seen a way to do it the way you describe.

When you say panels, are you referring to application docks like kdocker? Or do you mean panels like pypanel, that have "start" menus and such?

Best I can think of would be to check out these various panels, they are mostly all very configurable, and may allow you to get what you want:

pypanel
fbpanel
perlpanel
lxpanel

new gnome new panels?

Does anyone know if the recently released gnome updaye provides more robust panels? I'd like to have a left side vertical panel of links with the names of my servers but no icons. That would be huge. Tia.
