Dooooood! Thats hell in high water. Just get Virtual box http://www.virtualbox.com and run what you need inside of it. Running different OS's on the same machine is just a pain in the butt.

It depends on how you look at it. My simple machine slows down after about three distros on a virtual, they run faster on a multiboot running one at a time.

I know, it's just that multi-booting is one of those roads a lot of people go down when the don't really have the experience to pull off. And it ends up being a two week ordeal of pain and suffering. Back in the day everyone used to give themselves headaches trying to dual-boot windows and linux OS's. I just hate to see people go down what can be a pretty involved road.

From a blank hard drive or a disk that already has Windows?

just make sure you install win not far from the first sectors... perhaps less than the 1024th cylinder... the requirement here is just that the boot sector of win is reachable by BIOS.
