Mouse pointer disappears while hovering over some applications
I just installed Mandriva 2008 on my Everex StepNote laptop, this is the one with the VIA hardware, Chrome9 graphics chip. My window manager is KDE 3.5.7. It works great except for one little bug. Whenever the mouse pointer goes over certain applications, it disappears. It is still there because I can see things like buttons getting highlighted.

Two examples of applications where the pointer disappears are Adobe Acrobat Reader and KJumpingCube (a silly KDE game). The majority of applications don't experience this problem. Off the top of my head, I'm wondering if some applications are trying to change the graphical representation of the mouse pointer, but at some point in that process they are failing and they aren't defaulting back to regular pointer.

The only customization I have made is that I built the openchrome graphics driver from source and installed it so I could get the max. resolution for my laptop. Unfortunately, I'm not 100% certain if I was having the problem before I installed that driver, but I think I was.

Try disabling the hardware cursor in xorg.conf with:

Option    HWCursor    "false"
in your video card settings.
