moto RAZR v3 sync

after much ado.. i figured out how to get my media to sync via my box at work (windows xp w/ WMP)

but luckily, i dont have any windoze at home anymore...

unfortunately.. i am having extreme problems getting the phone to see the computer at all.

i go into the My Music folder on the phone and hit the 'sync' button and it fails to connect and tells me to check the cables. meanwhile, the phone is charging, so i know its connected.

i remember in slackware, when i was getting the stuff onto my fujifilm digicam i just mounted /dev/sda1 and copied the stuff via raw port... i would be perfectly happy to do this with the phone also, but i can NOT get it to see the computer at all, AND in the /dev directory, there is no sd* anything...

i run ubuntu 6.06 dapper on both ov my workstations anyone have any experience doing this??

i put amaroK on the box, but alas, no connecty...

thanks much

That would be because it's a motorola phone and you have to use the motorola phone tools kit on windows to sync with it. It doesnt act as a usb drive.

that is simply not true.

i didn't use the motorola phone tools at all.. and i have 2 songs on it from windows media player.

thanks for your two cents tho.

im not looking to do contacts or calendars.. just music files.

I use bluetooth to transfer files as Digicam wont even import files from my pictures folder let alone my phone(same V3 motorola)camera, actually Digicam won't import any photos from anywhere if you use 0.8.2 the latest version!!
