Most stable windows manager (like compiz or x.org)

I tried installing compiz on my amd64 version of gentoo and it didn't like it at all. I am unmerging now and can't wait to be rid of it, and from what I have read it is really unstable and not fully developed anyway. I loved x.org when i was using slackware 13 and I am thinking about installing it next. I did notice that every once in a while it kind of glitch up a bit though. Not enough to break my system but enough that I notice. What I am looking for is good multimonitor support. I like widgest, tranparency, and the genie effect :p. On slackware I could set the desktop background of both of my monitors to different images very easily, although I don't know if that had anything to do with the manager. Is there any effects/windows manager you guys would suggest that looks good and works well? Oh, it really needs to play nice with 64bit and nvidia cards too.

Hi, I use Mandriva 2010.0 Official free edition (dvd),

and although I have use beryl and compiz at different times, now, for desktop effects,

I use the kde4 desktop.

It has all the effects of beryl and compiz, with out the same overheads, but still some overhead in contrast with "no 3d effects".

So, if you haven't already, try kde4

cheers, Glenn
