Mint 16 black desktop issue

Hi all,

since this day I can't boot fully to my desktop. Stays black and only my mouse is useable. However, the system runs fine for weeks now (intalled mint mid february).

GFX driver is the latest (and highly recommended) prop.driver Catalyst from AMD.

I can switch back with strg+alt+f 1 to the shell and used it to startx again, but it doesn't worked.

fglrx never made trouble before, but what I see in the log's that there is a problem with the device...

No clue how I can fix that.

Need really help.

:(

down below is a rar file with 3 logs.

Odds are, if X failed to start properly, trying to start it again from a terminal will not work, as X is still lying unconscious on the floor. When you switch to the shell, can you see a prompt and typing?

What make/model computer; what processor; what model Catalyst; how much memory; what error messages, if any and if any are visible, appear when you try to startx (a digital photo might help)?

Also, it might be best to put the log files somewhere that they can be posted in the clear. Many persons might be leery of compressed files, because folks have gotten burned in the past.

Files are to big for that board, that's why I compressed it...I guarantee 1000000% virus free!

System: i7 4770k, 32GB RAM, Gigabyte Sniper G1m z87 Board, 2 SSD (Kingston and Samsung), GFX Radeon R9 290X watercooled.

Driver: Official Catalyst 14.2 beta Linux 64bit edition.

I can switch with strg+alt+F1 to the shell. All malfuntional codes are in the rar file.

I fear that some of my questions were unanswered.

Do you see anything on the screen--is it always black, or black only after you try to startx?

If it is always black, have you tested the monitor with another computer to verify that the monitor is not broke?

You misunderstood my 1st posting:

However, I solved that problem with de-installing the fglrx driver and than re-installing it.
But the most importent thing is, not to follow the Ubuntu WIKI 1:1...

I'll re edit the Ubuntu wiki and write also a How To for this board here.
Because -after searching the web for hours- many people have the same issue.

So, Wiki is updated (german version) and here is a great howto from AMD. Easy to oversee it while searching for the latest catalyst driver. Solution was to use the aticonfig --uninstall command and NOT the purge orde
recommended by the Ubuntu Wiki.

How ever, here is the official link.

Easy to read and easy to solve.

Cool. Thanks for the update. I'm sure it will help someone else.

And I apologize for misreading your first post.
