Menus and taskbar not showing up.
Hi there.
I just booted up my laptop, running XFCE with Xubuntu kernel 28. After it went into the desktop, all i get is the desktop icons. The XFCE menu bar on top is not showing up; and the taskbar on the bottom is not showing up either. I am sure there were no changes or upgrades done the last time i shutdown the computer. It just decided not to show anything but the desktop and it's icons. How can i tell the gui to show those things again? |
whenever i have a problem with the panels "menu bars" in gnome or kde I just delete their settings folder i.e .gnome or .kde folder and do a restart they are recreated on boot with default settings.

Ok, here's what i did.
I removed the files in my home directory. .gnome2 .gconf .gconfd I also went into .config and removed the XFCE folders. After which i rebooted. This just yielded some changes in desktop background but i still don't see the needed bars. Went back into the GUI with ctrl+alt+F7, but that didn't do it. Am i missing some other file? |
A google search found the following..
To restore the default panels open a terminal and delete the ~/.config/xfce4/panel directory: Quote:

Apparently, xfce4-panel was not running. That's the problem i think, once i typed that to execute it, the bar showed up. I think, hopefully, i can take it from here. Interesting thing though, the bar is now a KDE like bar, all at the bottom. I think it's better cause my screen height gets bigger i think, u know, for apps.
Thanks too much man, you've been of great assistance. |
