Menu/Application Launcher from Linux Mint Mate on Debian Mate?

https://www.linuxmint.com/pictures/s...sarah/mate.png

This is the application launcher on Linux Mint Mate. I was wondering if it was possible to install this menu launcher on Debian Mate desktop? What is the name of the launcher so I can look for it? On Debian Mate menu launcher does not have a search bar which I would really like to have.
Anyone know?

Have you asked at http://forums.debian.net/viewforum.php?f=6 ?

No but I will. Thanks

There's a few hits for mate-dev in any search engine. And normally I'd be inclined to direct you "to the (correct) source", but in this case, that's Debian's flavor of the MATE.
So I can only assume they
  • Removed the code
  • a package is not installed
  • other annoyance

and of course, I'm not a "Debian guy" so I'm not about to do an operation that groks out all the changes from 2 separate distros.
and any references I do have are solely Ubuntu-14-Trusty sourced (Hello LinuxMint 17.x)

And there's "this" nugget:
MATE 1.8.1 is currently packaged for Debian 8 (jessie). MATE 1.12 is also available on Debian testing (“Stretch”) and unstable (“Sid”).

Maybe, your MATE is old'ish?

I think it's just called "mintmenu": https://github.com/linuxmint/mintmenu

Thanks Habitual.
Yes, the Mate that comes on Debian is pretty much a vanilla Mate desktop. The version of Mate that comes with Linux Mint is something "special" to that OS.

I also run mate in a Debian Testing virtual machine, which for the most part looks almost exactly like the one in stable. See screen-shot attached.
