Maximized Windows Default on Gnome 3

I'm currently spending a lot of time in a CentOS 7.3.1611 VM and am irritated by Gnome's default behavior of maximizing application windows by default when the application is started. (My blog's database has issues and I'm cloning my site to this VM to try to shoot the trouble.)

I've looked in System Tools-->Settings and in Utilities-->Tweak and can find no way of changing this. If someone can point me in the right direction to make this (mis)behavior go away, I'd be most appreciative.

Wonder if a command line option would do it. Try this. gnome-terminal --maximize and then one your other programs from command line. If it works then you could change shortcuts.

Some window manages do save that setting but not sure if gnome does.

How did you achieve such behavior? I want to open app maximized in Gnome but cannot find such option!
