lubuntu leaves desktop to tty by itself after entering screensaver timeout

Hello,

I'm using lubuntu 18 for a month or so and running it in virtual box.

This is all gong fine until this morning after getting a coffee and getting back, the system left the desktop to tty mode and i had to login again. Unfortunately i couldn't get the desktop back, it went in the screen with the dots, I asume the loader for the desktop but it never started the desktop again.

On clean start, Ididn't do anthing out of the ordinary, I started codelite, run c code, just a sample declaring an int array, malloc mem (no errors on malloc) en free it again. It runned fine. I went away for a coffee and it was in tty mode.

I suspect the screensaver and virtualbox don't go that well together. I've set the screensaver timeout to infinity with " sudo xset s 0 0 " and leave the screensaving part to the host rather than the vm's.

Any ideas?

Virtual box is like virtual sex. NONSENSE.

Maybe 20y ago virtualization was a drag... But I'm really content having all kinds of dev boxes despite a hiccup hear and there.

Welcome to LQ!

Out of interest is there anything in the logs that would indicate what happened?

Not really, Just the SIGTERM caused by me and SSL CA warnings for self-signed certs from Apache.

No errors, it might then caused by something that should be considered normal behavior.
However, there were problems with virutalbox modules loading and a faulty keyring. But these are appearing on every boot...

In Lubuntu it is an option in preferences called "Light Lock". Go to System > Administration , then to LightDM GTK+ Greeter Settings and enter your password. In the next window, click upper right on Misc.there you will find Timeout Until The Screen After that, and after a reboot, the hated black screen shown itself again.
