Lubuntu 14.04 network

Hello, I have just downloaded latest 14.04 lubuntu but unlike previous ubuntu incarnations there are no icons on the top or bottom panel to click onto with a list of available networks and the network link in preferences and system tools doesn't help either. I have a wifi dongle based on the rt73 chipset and usually i have no trouble installing linux without extra input needed to find the dongle and network. Can anyone suggest a solution for me.If it is to download a driver on another machine to a flash drive then install i will need idiot proof instructions as to what driver files to download and how to install. Thanks for your time,Brian

Hi Brian

This is a problem the Lubuntu developers caused by not autostarting the Network manager applet by default there should be a fix coming out for it soon but meantime you should find the solution here

http://www.webupd8.org/2014/04/fix-l...k-manager.html

Good luck

Graeme

Lubuntu 14.04 network

My old HP Pavilion had Ubuntu 11 and it worked well with the network (internal and a usb stick for 811N).
Lubuntu 16.04 could not use the internal network nor could it find the USB stick.
Lubuntu 14.04 could not use the internal network but it can use the USB stick.
However, Lubuntu is very slow in uploading items. Unfortunately, Lubuntu 14.04 could not upload to Canada's Costco's print URL, nor edit the pictures of the photo centre. www.costcophotocentre.ca

Since we have other computers using Ubunto 12, windows 7 and windows 10, I simply use the other computers rather than trying to fix the problems of lubuntu 14.
