Locking in Place Removal Disk Icons in KDE.

The problem I am having is forcing the USB drive icon to stay in one specific place when it has been plugged/unplugged. I am using KDE 3.5x and Suse 10.1. The 'lock in place' option only works when I place the icon where I want during my current session. If I unplug the device and plug it back in, the icon is placed in a different location. I want the icon to stay in the same place every time and only show on the desktop when the device is plugged in. The work around will be an edit of a text file, I think, and not a point-and-click method.
This is also a problem with CD/DVD disks. I want their icons to only show up on the desktop when and where I want them to. The when is not a problem, just the where.
TIA for any suggestions.

I have, I think, figured out a way of doing what I want. I will conduct more tests to see if it holds up. I turned on both mount and unmount icons for the flash drive. I then, with the flash drive unplugged, locked in place the unmount icon. Then, after plugging in the flash drive, I locked in place the mounted icon. Then I turned off the unmount icon. I have only made this work once, so far. More reboots and in/out with the drive will tell if this solution is viable. Any other suggestions will be helpful.
