Livedvd Disconnects from the Internet
Hi,
I have made a live DVD -R for ubuntu-gnome 16.04.4
I am having trouble connecting to the internet, and staying connected.
Can anyone suggest a method that I can use with the LiveDVD to connect and remain connected to the internet?
I am connecting via wi-fi, and the signal is strong.
I have a stable connection to the internet using the installed kubuntu ver 14.04
Advice please
Ps. With ubuntu-gnome, when I boot the OS from the DVD drive after pressing the try ubuntu option I am faced with a log in prompt. What do I type here? I believe that I may have have hit escape to start the desktop, but I am not sure. I was trying various options. Advice at this stage also requested.
There should not be a login prompt on a Live CD/DVD. It should boot directly to the Desktop if you select the Try Ubuntu option. The first thing to do is to do an md5 checksum on the downloaded iso by opening a terminal and navigating to the directory in which the iso resides and entering this command:
Quote:
md5sum Ubuntu.iso
You would need the actual exact name of the Ubuntu iso in the command above. Might also be a bad DVD or it may not be clean so dust it and try it in another computer to see if it boots. You might also try inputting the username "ubuntu" in lowercase without quotes and leaving password blank and hit the Enter key.
I'm not sure how you are having trouble connecting to the internet if you can't first login?

The first thing that I did when I downloaded the iso file was to check its md5. It was exactly correct.
I though that I said this, but I pressed the escape key and the Desktop appeared. I can connect to the router, but soon after the connection it disconnects

If it's a bad download, you usually get a more serious and weird problem than a login box. Just try dismissing the box. There couldn't possibly be a password.

Other than waiting for the login page to disappear. How else can I dismiss the page. It looks like it appears as part of the download to memory from the livedvd.
Even live media should have a place to view logs. See what /var/logs tell to start.
There has been an odd login prompt issue with ubuntu versions since about v8 that may have never been fixed. It happens on only a few systems. Try this live media on a different system and see if all the symptoms happen.
Making a live real usb install with updates may fix the network issue.
Is this a wired or wireless connection? If it's wireless, it could be that the Live CD does not support the wireless chipset out-of-the-box. Test with a wired connection.
