linux software and materials???
 

Hi all,
This is my first msg in this forum.
Pls let me know from which site i can get the full linux software so that i can directly use that to boot linux in my windows pc.
I've been searching for that... also tell me which site or material gives a better understanding and learning in Linux.

Go to Distrowatch.org, choose your distro and get a link to it site. There you can download the latest version of it, and get materials about getting started.

Welcome to LQ!

There are many different "versions" or distributions of Linux available. I suggest either Ubuntu or Fedora. Both are free, and you can get good support at LQ.

To learn Linux, your best bet is to install it and use it as much as possible. Search Google and ask here when you find something that you don't know or understand.

Linux Distros
 

I have 3 computers all with different Linux Distros -

I got Fedora plus some really good step by step advice from "Linux for Dummies" by Dee-anne LeBlanc. This showed me (an A grade moron) how to install Fedora onto my PC without stuffing up Windows XP, so I can use either Linux or Windows XP. Total cost wast $49.95 Australian for book with DVD - also came with Knoppix which you can run off the CD without having to install anything! (Called a Live CD in Linux lingo)- not a bad price for 2 distros and all the instructions in simple English.

I got SuSe 10.0 free with January 2006 Linux Magazine

I got Mandriva 2005 edition with Linux Format Magazine Issue 67, June 2005

SuSe - I paid for a special magazine pack with 5 CDs ($25 AUD) from the newsagents, because I liked SuSe 10.0 so much, I figured 10.1 would be worth it. It was.

They all run perfectly, had no installation hassles at all. The best of them all for results, was Linux for Dummies.
You can download free copies of Distros in ISO format, from the Internet but on the three attempts I have had, they were faulty downloads. There is a Midsum checking process to check the download is good. I prefer the Magazine distros because they always have installation tips and instructions with them and you know the requirements before you start the download.
