I bought 2 imac core duos for my wife and i to use in school i personally want trenta os on it to practice coding (and i prefer linux). My wife would like windows but lets start on the linux side( unless they use the same method). The imacs have no os and even if they did it would be 10.6.8 and not have what we need in every day use. So how can i put linux on the imac without an os.(no dual boot) id like to have just one os.
The first step would be to create an installation medium, either a DVD or a USB stick. Which distro did you have in mind? Probably Linux Mint would be the one to start with if you haven't decided. Which processor does it have, an Intel or one of the older, but better PPC processors? That will affect the available choices significantly.
Edit: core duo is Intel

Interesting, never heard of it so had to google it. Found the comment below on their home page.

We are behind schedule. We will release soon, but there is a bug in the installation process that several testers confirmed rendering your partition unusable. We are investigating.
Looks like another Ubuntu. You do know you can write code/scripts with any Linux system. Trenta is another Ubuntu so you might take a look at some of the Ubuntu derivatives which have been around longer and are more stable or look at the Page Hit Ranking section at the site below which has an unofficial ranking of the most popular Linux distributions.
