Lightweight transparent panel
Hi!
I just set up compiz-fusion as a standalone window manager, and I'm very happy with it. There is one problem left, however. I commonly minimize windows because I use a lot of xterms that start programs, and I minimize the xterms to make sure I don't accidentally kill the application. However, Compiz does not provide a convenient way to get these windows back, as far as I know. (Various application switchers include every other window as well, and that can be a lot.) So, I need a panel to hold _only_ icons of my minimized windows. As looks do matter, I want it to be very minimal, transparent, unobtrusive - that's why I got rid of a desktop environment, after all. An exact clone of stalonetray that works as a panel would be perfect here, but alas, I have not yet found such a thing. I've tried: * Cairo - WAYY too much, I hate eye candy * wbar - Didn't look like it could be configured to do what I want * ltpanel, hpanel, fspanel - Too low-tech, ugly, no options * fbpanel - Almost perfect, except the "request" width type is broken :( (Also, the icons have buttons as backgrounds, maybe that can be turned off?) * lxpanel - No option to show only minimized Can anyone suggest any other panel? On KDE, I had plasmoids that were perfect for both minimised windows and tray (well, a little... lot buggy), but seems like there is no standalone application to do this :( Thanks, David PS: OffTopic - has Compiz really gotten rid of clicking to trigger edge bindings? That's why I moved away from e17 :( Seems like I need to change my control scheme... [Edit: Never mind, found that one out :) ] |
lxpanelx. It's a lxpanel fork.

I would recommend to have a look at tint2, it is very configurable.

maybe it'd be possible to use a background image with transparency on just the panel.
