Lack of file search in Gnome Desktop

Sometimes, when I can't remember where a specific file is located that I need to modify I use the default 'Computer File Search'.

However, some files require me to be logged in as Root to make any changes. When logged in as 'Root', in Gnome, the 'Computer File Search' does not work. Why is it disabled when logged in as 'Root'?

Makes me glad that Midnight Commander still works.

Thanks

I have used a number of distros/versions and the GUI search facilities are imho a weak substitute for command line. Go the the top of where the file might be (/home is a good start, sometimes /media, obviously / if it's a system file) then find <whatever>, use * as wild cards before and after.
